Amée is in preparation to give herself entirely to God, just a few more steps and she will be become one of his many brides. Her plans are thrown into disarray when a brutal Viking and his merry band of warriors literally knock down doors to get to her - the bride to be of said Viking.

Her father has decided to use her as a political and economic pawn, under certain restrictions of course, but very much as a bargaining chip. She is horrified by the news and simultaneously excited by this stranger who has burst into her life.

This is Highland romance without the Scotsman more or less. The innocent maiden is consumed with desire whilst simultaneously being scared out of her wits by the rugged eye-candy aka Viking warrior - standard plot, although Morris does go the extra mile to give her characters some depth. Naturally the story doesn't disappoint when it comes to the excruciating pulsating attraction, which culminates in smouldering 'it takes two to tango' scenes. 

If you're looking for a heartbreak, desire and passionate encounters, then this will be right up your street.

About the Author

I write romance with a twist, that extra something to keep readers guessing right to the end. While my books are character driven my inspiration is always a British setting; so far a village in Yorkshire (The Cheesemaker’s House), a Hampshire wood (The Faerie Tree), gorgeous Studland Bay in Dorset (Another You) and rural Lincolnshire (Endless Skies).

I was born and raised in Cardiff but spent most of my adult life living near Chichester before my husband and I upped sticks and moved to Cornwall three years ago.

Review

Rachel isn't exactly always on the right track when it comes to men. In fact crossing boundaries, breaking rules seem to be habits of a lifetime. Her last disastrous relationship resulted in a transfer and is making her rethink her career options. It also leads her into a life that includes new relationships, friendships and a connection with the past.

Her need to cross the line or rather the inability to say no when she should gets her into a lot of trouble. Meeting Jonathan is where life starts to change and perhaps his lack of interest in her is what draws her to him and a job that opens up her eyes into a world, which walks alongside us all everywhere we go.

Memories and energy of the past. Unresolved pain, emotions so strong they are shadowed in the present. Rachel is drawn into a long forgotten mystery. A story that helps to heal her own wounds, mistakes and perhaps even change the path she has put herself on.

Cable has created an interesting combination of historical fiction, romance, magical realism and ghost story. All elements of the story flow really well into each other and the result is a read filled with all the elements that may tug at the heartstrings and the yet it is also a mystery that will keep the readers engrossed until the end.

Review
Rose lives the life of a working class girl. Families are always only one step away from death, disaster and being homeless. Her childhood is made tenfold difficult by wartime restrictions, fears and invisible diseases that kill those around her.

The Strangling Angel of Children - diphtheria. Given the pandemic we are going through at the moment this is a relevant walk through history and perhaps also because in a time where conspiracy theories are at the forefront this story should remind us how many lives have been saved by vaccinations.

Rose is torn between duty and personal achievements, which isn't an easy place to be. Those feelings are difficult enough to deal with, but being privy to a secret is what ultimately determines her choices in life.

Although her dreams become something Rose has to put to the side in order to help her family it is also a completely normal thing in that era for working class people. Feeding family, clothing family and keeping a roof over their head - it is all more important than personal dreams and possible careers. 

Bradshaw gives this historical read a Cookson vibe, but perhaps with more of a modern attitude. We will persevere, despite the sorrow and loss. It makes you wonder how much people can endure before they break, although one could argue that the those on the bottom rung are used to defying the odds.

It's a story that has its heart-wrenching moments, but also uplifting ones and characters full of determination.

Eliza is unaware that aside from the tragedy of her birth coinciding with the death of her mother that her grandparents have been keeping a big secret from her. The kind of secret that will shake her confidence and change the way she sees herself.

Not content with the attentions of a childhood friend she falls for a mysterious, handsome and wealthy young man, who wants to sweep her off her feet, despite the fact the two are worlds apart when it comes to social status.

Young love and a spur of the moment decision leads to heartbreak in more ways than one and Eliza finds herself in a precarious and dangerous position, and also the target of a cruel and ruthless man from her past.

It's historical romance - a coming-of-age story as the main character discovers that beyond her own bubble is a world full of danger.

Finlay delivers the heartache of romance with a less dramatic approach. The main character has plenty of depth and the author takes the story into the world of workers rights, the exploitation of the innocent and the realisation that you should be grateful for what you have.

Sometimes the world of shiny and bright things is merely a well-prepared camouflage for a cruel dirty world. Perhaps the less glamorous and more down-to-earth world filled with loving people who support each other in times of hardship is one worth cherishing.
