About the Author
Steph Broadribb was born in Birmingham and grew up in Buckinghamshire. Most of her working life has been spent between the UK and USA. As her alterego - Crime Thriller Girl - she indulges in her love of all things crime fiction by blogging at crimethrillergirl.com, where she interviews authors and reviews the latest releases. She is also a member of the crime-themed girl band The Splice Girls.
Steph is an alumni of the MA Creative Writing (Crime Fiction) at City University London, and she trained as a bounty hunter in California, which inspired her Lori Anderson thrillers, She lives in Buckinghamshire surrounded by horses, cows and chickens. Her debut thriller, Deep Down Dead, was shortlisted for the Dead Good Reader Awards in two categories, and hit number one on the UK and AU kindle charts. My Little Eye, her first novel under her pseudonym, Stephanie Marland was published by Trapeze Books in April 2018.

About the book
Working off the books for FBI Special Agent Alex Monroe, Florida bounty hunter Lori Anderson and her partner, JT, head to Chicago. Their mission: to entrap the head of the Cabressa crime family. The bait: a priceless chess set that Cabressa is determined to add to his collection.

It's sad times when the FBI behaves like a worse criminal than the mobsters Lori is always tangling with. Monroe is a snake. He is willing to sacrifice her as long as he gets the results he is after. Lori needs to keep that in mind the next time he blackmails her into helping him, and it certainly is blackmail.
He uses her to get the goods on the head of the Cabressa crime family, but unfortunately the scheme he has come up with is dangerous and complicated. The kind of high-risk operation that could end with someone getting killed.
Once again Lori and JT work as a team, which can be complicated considering some of the truths from the last books, which can all be read as standalone books by the way, but in the end when push comes to shove they both have each others backs.
I have to hand it to Broadribb for taking this story in particular to another action level entirely. The Lori Anderson thrillers are always fast-paced, brutal at times, and both action and emotional scenes are balanced equally. This time however the story has a Die Hard, Poseidon (I know it's not an upside down ship, but the atmosphere and escape element are similar) and in general a tense psychological disaster escape setting.
It's a crime thriller - an energetic fast-paced series with superb plotting and the kind of characters you want to revisit over and over again.
I really enjoy the way Broadribb doesn't rest on the laurels of the previous successful books in the series, instead she keeps the innovative thinking coming to keep it fresh and exciting. That isn't as easy as it sounds, but the author does it with a certain panache.
